Alexandrite Laser
The Alexandrite laser emits energy at 755nm, a frequency with high absorption by melanin. For this reason, it is very effective in hair removal, as the melanin in the hair follicles we want to destroy absorbs this targeted energy, overheats, and gets destroyed. The melanin present in the skin of individuals with dark complexion is a potential target for this laser, especially if they are tanned, and for this reason, settings need to be carefully adjusted in this case or another laser such as the Diode or Nd-Yag should be chosen. The shorter wavelength of the Alexandrite makes it act more superficially on the skin and makes it more effective on smaller and finer hairs with more superficial roots. However, in some areas, for the same possible reason, it may activate peach fuzz and turn it into hair. For these areas, we recommend the Diode laser which acts deeper in our clinic.
The Alexandrite laser has also been used for skin pigmentation and superficial vessels, but in our clinic, we have more specialized lasers for these conditions.
