What is rosacea (rosacea acne)?
Rosacea, sometimes also called rosacea acne, is a challenging condition that usually, but not always, affects fair-skinned individuals. It has no relation to adult acne, with which it is sometimes confused.
What are the main symptoms of rosacea?
It has many manifestations, with not all findings necessarily present in the same individual. It is characterized by:
- Redness on the face, which worsens with exposure to the sun, alcohol, hot or spicy foods and drinks. It is accompanied by the presence of small or large blood vessels.
- Pimples with white heads usually.
- Eye irritation with a sensation of foreign body.
- Stinging or burning sensation on the face.
- In some more advanced cases, nodules may form due to inflammation, and it may even distort the nose, causing the so-called "rhinophyma".
Rosacea & TotalSkin
We have a particular research interest in this condition with 3 published papers in reputable international scientific journals, with original findings that have determined the method by which we successfully treat it.

Rosacea & Treatment
Although rosacea is multifactorial, the first and crucial factor in its onset is the destruction of the skin's elastic fibers due to chronic exposure to the sun.
It is very important for someone to come as early as possible on the course of the disease and to avoid the use of cortisone, which is contraindicated. Compliance with certain habits of the patient is also essential, such as avoiding sun exposure.
It is not a disease that is treated with therapy for a few days or weeks. It requires a combination of targeted pharmacological treatment to address inflammation first and then mild interventions with peeling and appropriate vascular lasers to regenerate collagen and elastic fibers that are affected and to reduce blood vessels and redness. This will allow the patient to remain without medication and without relapses for years.
If the treatment is not done in the correct sequence, then frequent relapses occur.
