ROOT ELECTROLYSIS

During root electrolysis, the hair is cauterized using a special gold or silver needle, as these materials are excellent conductors of energy and have antimicrobial properties. Electrolysis, as it is otherwise called, is the most effective method for permanent hair removal, as we channel electricity and thermally destroy the hair follicle directly, preventing its regeneration. However, this doesn't mean that a single session is enough; on average, fewer sessions are needed compared to laser hair removal.

How is Electrolysis Done with a Needle?

During a root electrolysis session, we use an extremely thin and small silver or gold needle with a hair thickness. This needle is personal for each patient and changes between patients for hygiene reasons. We follow the course of the hair follicle and penetrate deep into the hair root. When the needle reaches the follicle, we send a small amount of electric current and electrolyze - destroying the root. The hair can then be 'plucked' with minimal force using the fingers, without tweezers. The use of magnifying lenses by the operator is necessary.

It requires expertise and is time-consuming as each hair needs to be targeted individually at the right depth to avoid scarring. Therefore, it is mainly suitable for the face, where the number of hairs is small compared to the body. Additionally, it is the only hair removal method for white hairs, as the lack of melanin renders lasers targeting melanin ineffective. It works exceptionally well, and often we combine this method with laser for the face for optimal and faster results. However, it can be painful, so we use a special lidocaine cream beforehand to mitigate discomfort.

After the session, there is some irritation, and we apply appropriate creams. Another session can be done once this irritation, which usually lasts a few days at most, subsides. Occasionally, minor folliculitis may occur, which usually resolves within a week.

In Which Areas Is it Applied?

Root electrolysis with a needle can be applied to virtually all areas of the face and body. However, because it is time-consuming, we primarily use it in our clinic on the face, especially in cases where there is a peach fuzz in the surrounding area. This way, we avoid the possibility of activating and thickening the peach fuzz, as can happen with all lasers.

We also use electrolysis with excellent results on the chest in women where there is a small number of individual hairs. With this method, we achieve the best and fastest results.

Finally, we can use it wherever there is a small number of hairs anywhere on the body.

Is it Safe?

Root electrolysis is completely safe. There is no radiation, so eye protection is not required, and when done correctly, the irritation is temporary and lasts a few days at most after the session. Unlike most lasers, it can also be applied to tanned skin and during summer without problems, as the melanin-rich skin remains unaffected.

What is the Cost of the Procedure?

The procedure requires specialized training and depends entirely on the operator and their experience, both for safety and effectiveness, as well as the speed of application. Simply pressing a button to emit a laser pulse is not enough. Proper positioning of the needle in each hair follicle and at the right depth, and providing energy for the right amount of time depending on the hair thickness, requires practice, and only with training can an operator quickly and effectively treat many hairs in one session. The cost of the application is primarily time-dependent. Contact us for a free assessment to receive an evaluation and a quote for the procedure.
